Over 150 Brave the Cold to Protest Planned Parenthood

Monday, February 18th, 2008

Picket line Feb 16We had another great turnout for our monthly protest at Planned Parenthood Saturday. More than 130 people participated in the big picket line along the bike path on the south side of New York Street. Another two dozen gathered across the road from the abortuary to pray and offer help to abortion-bound mothers.

Now we're getting somewhere!

Thursday, February 14th, 2008

Yesterday at 3:32 p.m., our zoning case [PDF] against Planned Parenthood and the City of Aurora was filed in Illinois State Court! Finally, we have moved out of the cloistered city politics of Aurora and into State Court, where our case can finally be heard.

The case, brought by five courageous residents of the Oakhurst neighborhood and FVFAPP, will finally call Planned Parenthood to task for their lies and deceit. The City will be forced to admit what they knew when, and PP will be forced to give an account for their lies to City officials and the community.

City Council to vote on abortion restriction tonight

Tuesday, February 12th, 2008

Former abortion facility on GalenaTonight the Aurora City Council will vote on an ordinance (PD07.012) that would restrict abortions from being performed at 523 W. Galena Boulevard—the site of the notorious "Jakubowski" abortuary.

The new owner of the building, who is pro-life, wants to rent the building to a general practice doctor, which requires a special use permit. He has asked the council to grant that permit with a proviso that abortions cannot be performed there.

I will live-blog the meeting, which starts at 6 p.m. This ordinance is the second item under "unfinished business" and seven or eight neighbors who were involved in the pro-life witness at the old abortuary will speak in favor of it. Tune in then . . .

Tuesday, February 5th is voting day for Illinois primary elections. With these upcoming elections, who will we vote for, and on what basis?

Live from the March for Life!

Tuesday, January 22nd, 2008

march4life3.jpgHello FVFAPP readers, Matt Yonke here. Eric and I are in Washington D.C. for the March for life today. I'll be updating wherever I have internet access, beginning with the Blogs for Life Conference, where I am right now. Later we're hitting the march, which I'll probably have to blog in a less "live" fashion. So, without further delay, away we go!

9:40 a.m. I am very excited that, though I arrived at Blogs for life a little late, I made it in time for Senator Sam Brownback, one of our fiercest pro-life politicians. Sen. Brownback is encouraging us to consider a "pro-life/whole life" stance.

He says we need to remember that life is just as important in the womb, in schools, in prison, overseas, wherever life is present, life is precious and sacred. [Continue reading . . . »]

After the ZBA: What happens next?

Tuesday, January 8th, 2008

Last night's Zoning Board of Appeals (ZBA) hearing was fast and furious. It was full of back and forth between attorneys and the ZBA. It seemed like it was over before it began! I'm sure a lot of people are wondering what implications last night's events will have on the future of our efforts here in Aurora.

First of all, I hope it's clear to everyone that this was not the end of anything, nor was it a defeat. This case is still just getting started and we were in no way harmed or set back by last night's outcome. But more on that later. [Continue reading . . . »]

Live blog from the ZBA hearing tonight

Monday, January 7th, 2008

Tonight: The next Zoning Board of Appeals (ZBA) hearing begins at 7:00 p.m. at Aurora City Hall (map). Wear your "Planned Parenthood LIES to You"—or pick one up when you get there.

If you can't be at the hearing, tune in here for live blogging starting about 6:45 p.m.

The ZBA will rule on three important motions tonight. First is the city's Motion to Dismiss—they want the ZBA to refuse to hear our appeal on the grounds that it's untimely and out of their jurisdiction. If the ZBA grants this motion, the hearings are over and we'll have to take our case to state.

Activism
I've always been staunchly pro-life. But over the past few months—like so many readers of this blog—I've actually put my pro-life convictions into action.

Joining pro-life rallies, speaking out at the City Council and above all praying out at Planned Parenthood has been a huge blessing for me and my family. At the same time, I've seen that it takes more than just a willingness to act—we need the right tools to be really effective. [Continue reading . . . »]
