It's a matter of LIFE & DEATH

Pro-lifers pray the "Way of the Cross" on Good Friday

Monday, March 24th, 2008

Stations of the CrossIt was a chilly Good Friday morning last week when eighty of us gathered at Planned Parenthood for the "Scriptural Way of the Cross", led by Fr. Cesar Pajarillo of St. John Neumann Church. We stood together on the sidewalk behind the building, the site of the round-the-clock vigil that launched our fight against the "Abortion Fortress."

Fourteen scriptural passages on the suffering and death of Our Lord were read over a bullhorn by various members of the group. After each, Fr. Cesar offered prayers for our deepened commitment to following Christ.

March 15 protest at Planned Parenthood (Photo by Sam Scheidler)"Abortion clinic protesters have no plans to stop" reads the headline of an article in today's Aurora Beacon News. They've got that right, and this past Saturday's protest and clinic witness seminar signify how strong the pro-life commitment remains in the Fox Valley.

Wednesday Open Thread: Teens and Sex Makes Front-Page News

Wednesday, March 12th, 2008

Aurora Beacon -- March 12, 2008Today's Aurora Beacon featured an article, on the front page, titled "Diseases blossom with teen sexuality, with the sub-title of "1 in 4 teen GIRLS NOW has an STD".

The article points out that 1 in 4 teenage girls nationwide currently has an STD. Noreen Transier or the Kendall County Health Department is quoted in the article as saying "There are more kids having sex."

More kids having sex is probably not news, but the statistic that 1 in 4 girls currently have an STD should be alarming. Apparently, something is not working when STDs are spreading to 25% of our teenage females. (The article did not mention any statistics about teenage boys for some reason.)

Help save parental notification in Illinois!

Monday, March 10th, 2008

As I recently reported the Parental Notification of Abortion Act in Illinois has suffered a recent setback. Today, I have something you can do to help get this law enforced!

Over the objections of the State Supreme Court and Attorney General Lisa Madigan, Federal Judge David Coar has refused to lift his injunction on the law, claiming the Supreme Court's guidelines for judicial bypass aren't clear enough, and setting the stage for another decade of legal wrangling on this important law.

But there's still hope. The State's Attorneys of Illinois all have the authority to join this case and call for a Motion to Reconsider.

Wednesday Open Thread: Illinois HB5615

Wednesday, March 5th, 2008

Are they "nuts"? The Reproductive Justice and Access Act nears the height of insanity.

The bill states "that every individual possesses a fundamental right of privacy with respect to reproductive decisions", yet for "pregnancy terminations", that same individual does not have a right to hold her "medical professional", aka the abortionist, responsible for any harm done during the abortion.

In Section 25, "Pregnancy terminations", it states: "a qualified medical professional is not liable for civil damages or subject to criminal penalty relating to a pregnancy termination performed in good faith". [Continue reading . . . »]

Setback for Illinois Parental Notice Law

Monday, March 3rd, 2008

Federal Judge David Coar, of NOW v. Scheidler fame, ruled Friday that the Parental Notice of Abortion Act was still not ready to be enforced. The law, passed in 1995, was initially held up due to Coar's insistence that the provisions for judicial bypass were not expressed clearly enough. He felt that unless the procedures for obtaining judicial bypass were crystal clear and dangerously easy, the law might keep some competent minors from getting their abortions because of bureaucratic red tape.

UPDATE: Our continuing battle in the court room

Monday, February 25th, 2008

GavelOur fight against Planned Parenthood in the courts is continuing, and every day that goes by brings us one step closer to getting to the bottom of PP's lies in coming into Aurora and, God willing, one step closer to kicking them out.

Tom Brejcha and Peter Breen at the Thomas More Society Pro-Life Law Center have been working tirelessly as well as getting some input from some attorneys from Washington D.C. who contributed to the NOW v. Scheidler trial. All the attorneys are very excited about these cases. We could see some big waves rippling out from Aurora, IL in the coming years.
