June protest celebrates fatherhood

God graced us with perfect weather for a protest this Saturday, June 19. It was the day before Father's Day and it was great to see a strong turnout of pro-life fathers to show their opposition to Planned Parenthood's presence in Aurora.

Over 50 pro-lifers gathered over the course of the protest holding signs reading "Stop Abortion Now", "Planned Parenthood BAD for Aurora", and the most popular by far at this protest, "Dads for Life".

It was great to be joined again by local Knights of Columbus, who have started a regular rosary during our monthly protest. Their emphasis on fatherhood and family fit perfectly with the mood of the day.

Planned Parenthood's destruction of fatherhood

At the close of the protest, I shared some thoughts with the crowd on how Planned Parenthood destroys fatherhood in two ways. There is the obvious destruction of fatherhood in the death of a baby at the hands of an abortionist. But Planned Parenthood's attack on fatherhood is even more pernicious. They attack fatherhood when they persuade a woman that the man who fathered her child has nothing to do with the decision over whether the child lives or dies.

When we realize that so many of the pressing problems in our society have at least some of their root cause in the dearth of fathers in American families, it becomes clear that protesting Planned Parenthood isn't just about their abortion business. It's also about the full-on assault on family they're engaged in at every level of their operation: in educating children, pushing condom-training "comprehenive" sex-ed, pushing contraception and abortion on the underprivileged both here and abroad and their advertising campaigns and "educational" websites that promote unapologetic promiscuity.

With all that in mind, I was greatly encouraged to see all the faithful men standing up against Planned Parenthood's lies and their wanton destruction of life this Saturday. Do you know a strong pro-life father? Tell us about him in the comments section!
