When the time comes as it surely will, when we face that awesome moment, the final judgment, I've often thought, as Fulton Sheen wrote, that it is a terrible moment of loneliness. You have no advocates, you are there alone standing before God and a terror will rip through your soul like nothing you can imagine. But I really think that those in the pro-life movement will not be alone. I think there will be a chorus of voices that have never been heard in this world but are heard beautifully and clearly in the next world and they will plead for everyone who has been in this movement. They will say to God, "Spare him because he loved us," and God will look at you and say not, "Did you succeed?" but "Did you try?"

Kathy, Abortion is the ultimate form of child abuse. Two wrongs do not make a right. If your daughter is living an immoral lifestyle, unfortunately, yes, that does affect her children. But killing them is a way more terrible sin than her promiscuity. Just because a person may be born into a "bad situation" does not constitute killing them. We as humans innately are problem solvers, like I said before, where there is life there is hope.Always have hope for your daughter and her children. Teach them and show them the love of Jesus, pray with them and for them. With God all things are possible. A flower can grow in some of the worse conditions.

Dear professor,
Things were and are better when we follow God. And studies have shown that divorce is way more harmful to the children than the couple staying together in spite of their problems. Of course if there is abuse or real danger in the household, then it is better for there to be a separation from the situation. The problem is, today people do not seem to know how or even want to persevere. I think much of it is because we live in a world now where we consider anything that is too difficult a negative. We don't want to be bothered by anyone or anything. If things are not going the way we want, we think, well, I guess we were not suppose to be together, it's hopeless, etc... The attitude today seems that everything is so easily disposed of, (including life in the womb) Yes, there were marriages that we not the best, but you ask some of those people now in their old age who stayed married for 50+ years, and they will tell you that it helped them become stronger and learn to get along, learn to forgive. When they made a promise before God to love and honor that person for the rest of their life, they took that seriously, Now, I don't think a promise is hardly worth even a penny.
P.S. People always talked, that is human nature! But if they did not blast it all over the place that is because people had a healthy sense of right and wrong, and by doing so the evil was kept as just that, evil. Now wrong is thought of as right.
And making abortion legal did not make it moral. It is killing a life.

Michelle ,
It is unfortunate that you feel it's ok, for the children my daughter continues to have, to pay the consequences for her bad choices.Isn't that kind of, I don't know,a form of child abuse?

Karen K,

The old fashioned system did NOT work well before. It's just that people didn't talk about its failures. Teenagers still had sex before marriage. It's just that there was a shotgun marriage if the girl got pregnant and most girls were married by age 18. And without divorce, many people were stuck in dead-end marriages. They still had abortions, but they either were back-alley of self-inflicted, which caused a lot of needless deaths of young (and older) women. But, of course, when that happened, the whole 'scandal' was hushed up and nobody talked about why the poor woman died. Or, perhaps an unplanned pregnancy meant that there was a trip to Europe for a professional abortion (for the rich ones) or a trip out of state to have her baby in shame (for the poor ones).

The only reason it appeared that everything worked before is that nobody actually talk about what didn't work. This is simple dishonesty and hypocrisy. Of course, you can go back further to times where the punishment for disobeying the 'rules' was being burned to death, or tortured as a witch, or, as in some societies today, killed by stoning. Sorry, I have no desire to go back to those times.

Kathy,

I would recommend listening to all the talks on this webpage. If you don't have time to listen to all of them at the very least listen to the "Catholic High School Talk" and fast forward to the ONE HOUR mark and listen for 10-15 minutes. These talks are unbelievable and changing many teens views on sex whenever they are given.

Thank You

Kathy said,
"You need to face the facts that no matter what you or anyone else says or does or even thinks, teens have sex. Therefore, wouldn,t it be better for them to be informed about their options rather then leave them hanging with a whole bunch of old fasioned nonsense?Sure it would be great if everyone got married had, sex, raised their children together, and then grew old together! But that is just not a realistic way of thinking.Check the divorce statistics."

Kathy, why did that old fashion nonsense work pretty well before? There wasn't half the divorce, I never even heard of anyone killing their baby in the womb etc... I do believe the problem is the loss of love for God. Our country has turned its face away from God and His teachings. It is all about love, love for each other in the way God says. He knows best, and it very obvious, when we do the opposite of what God teaches us, all Hell breaks loose. It may seem hard to listen to God's rules, but when we do not, it is a whole lot harder. And God of course knows this, that is why He is the Greatest Teacher, and we as His people need to form our will with His. I guarantee families will live more in peace and harmony. But it will take alot of prayer now and humbling ourselves, and yes, practicing our obedience to God. And when we fail, don't give up, say we are sorry, try and correct the wrong we did and start fresh again. Life is a journey, it isn't always easy, but if we are faithful to God all will work out in the end. karen
