Zoning Board to take up PP questions November 28

Posted by Eric Scheidler on Thursday, November 1st, 2007

PP under constructionI've just received word that the Aurora Zoning Board of Appeals (ZBA) has set a hearing date for our appeal on zoning questions surrounding Planned Parenthood's approvals to build and occupy their Abortion Fortress. The hearing will be November 28 at 7 p.m. in the City Council Chambers at City Hall.

I'd like to see a huge crowd of concerned citizens at the ZBA hearing—the first time since our campaign began that the Planned Parenthood issue is actually on the agenda of an official city meeting.

To get an idea of how many people will be there, I've set up the poll below. Please indicate whether or not you plan attend the ZBA hearing.

Are you planning to attend the Zoning Board of Appeals meeting on November 28 at 7 p.m., when the Planned Parenthood applications process will finally be reviewed?

Among the issues to be addressed is the special use permit question, which was never adequately addressed in the so-called investigation Mayor Weisner manipulated to justify giving Planned Parenthood their occupancy permit.

The November 28 ZBA hearing is just the first step in what may be a very long legal battle over what we believe to be serious zoning ordinance violations by Planned Parenthood—and possibly by the City of Aurora as well.

I suspect the case will wind up in state court, but the ZBA hearing is an important first step, when we will formally present our case and city zoning officials will respond to our questions for the first time. Please try to be there if you can make it.

Nov 28th! Are you kidding me? Didn’t corporation counsel Alayne Weingartz state, at the October 9th meeting, that this would most likely occur within 30 days? Even though, she believed that, this could be scheduled within 60 days by law? What else could they be so busy with, that they could not schedule this with expediency? What’s the hold up?

It looks like they dragged their heels on this one, waiting till the last minute.

Is this a meeting where we should plan to show up to demonstrate our support for the pro-life movement, or a situation where we should prepare to speak? Will they be taking questions?

I think they think we are just a bunch of harmless protesters, and they're perfectly safe in their jobs. On the contrary, I think this has made the pro-life movement even more determined than ever to shut this (and all the other pr0-abortion clinics) down, and they are going to be in the fight of their life in this town.

Keep in mind, the supreme court, has 5 Catholics on it, and every one of them is OBGLIGATED to stop abortion, if they have the autority to do so, or run the possibility of being excommunicated by the Catholic Church. (That's no small matter for a Catholic, as many of them, (i.e. politicians and judges,) try to hide behind the "Catholic" label, to try to apprear to be "respectable" with their constituents.

The fact of the matter is, the Catholic Church teaches that anyone who participates in an abortion, is AUTOMATICALLY EXCOMMUNICATED - (per the Catholic Catecism, the official teaching of the Church.)

As such, these phony policians and judges need to be called out on this point, and think once the light is shined on them, they will go scurrying like the rats trying to find cover.

My hope is, we frame the issue in such a way that we make it VERY CLEAR what the consequences are (morally, and legally,) if they continue to defy God's commandment - THOU SHALL NOT KILL.

Who do they think they are fooling? In the end, they are only fooling themselves.

Again, think they is a movement nationally to pull all our pro-life organizations and churches together, and rid out society of this hoffic crime against humanity, and hold all these people responsible for this accountant - (each and every one of them.)

In the meantime, we should continue documenting all the people involved, as one day I believe this will be overturned, and will have them on record who all was involved in this, so they can stand trial for the murder of these children.

Andrea—Thanks. Actually, thanks go to Matt, who searched around for the "plug-in" that makes the poll work.

Erin—No, there won't be any public comment at this meeting. It's a hearing of the zoning board of appeals. ZBA members and attorneys on all sides (FVFAPP, PP and the dity) will be the only ones to speak.

I always hated the fact that PP got public funding. It would be fitting (return the Yin&Yang balance to the cosmos) if their status as a not-for-profit business is the reason PP needed the special use permit.

    November 2nd, 2007 at 1:36 am
  8. Charles says:

Paul2 – Agreed. I think it would be even more fitting, that by their creation and use of a for-profit company, PP lost their not-for-profit status, and would be required to return their public funding. How’s that for balance?

While I agree with what you said here, I think that all the supreme court really needs to do is to uphold the Constitution. Catholic or no, that means protecting and defending life!

Way to subscibe to "an eye for an eye". Is that what Jesus would say? Did Jesus not say to the Jews and the Romans during his final moments…"Forgive them Father for they know not what they do."

These words you say sound like they are full of evil and hate. There is enough hatred in this world already. Humans putting other humans on trial on earth is probably laughable in the eyes of God. Remember that Jesus dies for OUR sins…no one on earth can claim that they have never sinned.

    John:

Forgiveness and Justice are not mutually exclusive. By your definition, no criminal should be prosecuted for anything. You are right that we should not bring ourselves down to the level of hate and hate speech–Jesus did teach that we should love our enemies–but that is not the same thing as ignoring Truth in order to "be nice."

Mr. Scheidler: thanks for the prompt update. I figured there would be no public comment, but it is nice to have that confirmed. My husband and I will decide who will attend and who will get to spend quality time with our 2 toddlers.

By my own admission I am a novice in Christianity's teachings, so please bear with me and also take no offense.

    Erin says,

"By your definition, no criminal should be prosecuted for anything."

Where/what passages in the Bible state that humans on this earth should procecute other humans/criminals?

"Jesus did teach that we should love our enemies–but that is not the same thing as ignoring Truth in order to "be nice.""

This is obviously where I'm a little confused about His teachings…could someone please clarify.

  15. Erin says:

    John:

I am by no means a Biblical expert, but I based my statements on an understanding of the way Christ approached people. When Jesus speaks to tax collectors, prostitutes, adulterers, etc. He invites them into his circle as friends, eats meals with them, converses with them, but never tells them that what they are doing is ok. Instead He says, as He did to the woman who was about to be stoned for adultery, "Go and sin no more." (John 8:11) We shouldn't hate, you are absolutely right, and we shouldn't shun people (because after all, we are all sinners), but no more can we ignore obvious sin and not encourage people to change their ways.

As far as the government's authority to punish criminals, I would refer you to Romans 13: 1-7. In summary, it says, God created the idea of government, and government has authority in this world. We should submit to the rules of our government (even to unlawful imprisonment, as Jesus Himself did), even while trying to work to make our government's laws more just.

I hope this is clear, but if not the problem is probably with my faulty explanation. As I said, I am no expert.

God has appointed two powers, the spiritual and the secular, for the direction of human society. To the spiritual power He has committed the guidance of souls, to the secular the maintenance of peace and order. Although the two powers have separate aims, they mutually complete each other.

We are not only bound to obey the laws of the State because of the penalty incurred by disobedience, but also for the conscience sake, because the commands of the secular authority are the commands of God ( Roman 2,5 ) But if the temporal power commands something which God forbids, we must recall to mind the Apostles words : "We ought to obey God rather than men" (Acts V 29)

It is important to go to the ZBA with an "attitude of gratitude." God wants us to be thankful people! Thank Him ahead-of-time that He's using the zoning process to accomplish His purposes. And since none of us limited humans really know the full extent of His purposes, being thankful ahead-of-time is an expression of our faith and trust in Him. The opposite of thankfulness is whining & complaining. Let's all not whine, not grumble, not complain, and be thankful! This will give God cause to smile upon us!

  27. Paul2 says:

    Tom,
I stand corrected. The ZBA hearing is not open for public comment so it is not a forum to grumble or complain even if you would like to. You had a good idea to praise God before, during, and after the hearing. It is ALWAYS a good forum to thank God.

Wouldn't it be ironic if Gemini Health was a For Profit Company that would have to have had to pay taxes to the City, and that PPH does not? So much for zoning bait and switch!

    November 7th, 2007 at 9:45 pm
  29. Andrea H. in Aurora says:

    Jim,
Gemini Office Development, LLC is a for profit company and has already been given their tax bill for 2006. Since the property taxes are based on last years property values, the bill refects only the value of the undeveloped land. Gemini will need to continue to pay this tax bill once the property is assessed at the $7.5 million building plus the $900,000 3 acre lot. The property tax bill will eventually be somewhere between $70,000 -$90,000 per year.

If you all are against abortion and against education about birth control methods what are your plans for all the single moms trying to raise a few kids herself on welfare? I'd rather spend a few bucks on a pack of condoms or a pack of birth control pills then pay to raise a child that no one wants.

    November 13th, 2007 at 7:18 am
  32. Bren says:

In response to "me"…First of all, there are NO children that no one wants! There are plenty of people who would love to adopt. These people will be more than happy to pay ALL the expenses included and provide a loving home to that child for life. Second, there are multiple orginizations that provide contraception for free or little charge without having to go through PP and their lies. Lastly, there is one sure fire way to not get pregnant! If PP wasnt teaching that we have no more control over our actions than a wild animal then this wouldn't even be an issue.

    November 13th, 2007 at 8:09 am
  33. Tara says:

    Bren,

Very well put. PP thrives on the idea that kids cannot "control" themselves. And as for education, I'm all for it, but not the kind that tells my 5 year old that it's okay to have sex. Their "comprehensive sex ed" encourages risky behavior. So by advocating ricky behavior (ie stop abstinence funding, parental notification etc.) they are paving the way for future girls to come in and have abortions.

And condoms are not 100% effective in preventing pregnancy, and the pill doesn't prevent STD's and the combination of the two, might prevent pregnancy, but there is still no guarantee of not contracting an STD. Personally I'd rather get pregnant then an STD. STD's can kill you, make you infertile, and cause major life long health problems. And abortion can cause all these problems and more.

Nine months verses 80 years. I would definately choose 9 months!

Yes. At the very least, it violates the 14th amendment. The police cannot discriminate based on the content of a person's prayers.

Also, if I decide to pray on the public sidewalk in front of my home, am I breaking the law? What they are attempting to restrict seems silly now doesn’t it. I would be interested in hearing how they would justify that.

I cannot agree more, Paul2. And, we should resolve to perservere. Ours is good work. It's God's work through us. Without this, we are without moral principles; as Ravi Zacharias states, "we are men without chests".

  38. David R says:

No one said anything about hate. I realize there are pro-abortionists on this site as well, who are trying to persuade you that anyone who opposes abortion, or who thinks the killing of an unborn child is perfectly o.k., is a "hater." Not true. I am Catholic, and a called to love everyone. That said, abortion is considered murder by the Catholic Church, and as such, is viewed by many (including myself) as no different than the killing of 6 million innocent men women and children in Nazi Germany.

The fact is, the Catholic Church teaches that although not all people know the laws of the Catholic Church, all are given the knowledge to know the difference between right and wrong, (i.e. under the churches teaching on "natural law," and per the Bible,) and therefore, should be held accountable.

Furthermore, both the Catholic Church and the Bible do say we are to follow the laws of man, UNLESS the contradict the teachings of the God's law, which both teach SUPERCEDE in that case the laws of man. (You can imagine a law in Naxi Germany, which may have said you are ordered to kill any man, women or child that they may have classified as "undisirable" or "defective," which in that case, you DO NOT HAVE TO OBEY, if, again, it contradicts GOD's LAWS - chiefly, the Fifth COMMANDMENT - "THou SHALL NOT KILL."

Therefore, we will continue to reseach who all is behind this abortion industry, so that one day they may be brought to justice, to stand trial for their crimes against humanity, and murder of these innocent children.
