Provena Health and Planned Parenthood
Posted by greg, October 14th, 2007
On October 11th, Bruce Jaspen of the Chicago Tribune presented that Provena and Planned Parenthood are using the same public affairs firm:
COVERING BOTH SIDES: In Aurora, Chicago public relations firm Jasculca-Terman and Associates is assisting the public affairs strategies of two health organizations that don't always agree when it comes to reproductive health services.Jasculca is representing Catholic-owned Provena Health, parent of Provena Mercy Medical Center in Aurora, while also working with Planned Parenthood.
The Planned Parenthood clinic is providing an array of reproductive services, including contraception, and has been met with large protests in Aurora, where the facility opened last week.
Provena Health, an operator of six Catholic hospitals in Illinois, does not provide certain reproductive services such as tubal ligations, vasectomies and abortions.
Neither Provena nor Jasculca sees problems with representing two organizations often at odds over reproductive issues, notably abortion.
"Our clients have determined there is no conflict," said Beth Kanter, vice president at Jasculca-Terman in reference to Provena and Planned Parenthood.
Before Provena hired Jasculca, the hospital operator's executives, which included a priest who works full time as the system's ethicist, evaluated hiring Jasculca and determined there was no conflict.
"We are not advocates of Planned Parenthood," said Provena spokeswoman Lisa Lagger. "Provena's relationship is with Jasculca-Terman and not Planned Parenthood."
This is being bounced around several Blogs. I post it here for information sake. I for one do believe that there is a conflict here and I will contact Provena and Mercy Center to voice my opinion. I am also skeptical of any "for hire" priest ethicist, but I will leave that to all of you to discuss and decide.
There most definitely is a conflict here. If Provena truly does not advocate Planned Parenthood, then we would sure hope to see them do everything in their power to prevent being associated with them in any way, for example their public relations firm. I would be utterly ashamed to be represented by a firm that advocates an organization such as Planned Parenthood…

There are Christ Killers on the list of clients for Jasculca-Terman and Associates too: Jewish Community Centers of Metropolitan Chicago, A. Finkl & Sons, also The Clinton Presidential Foundation and of course the most evil of organizations to promote gay sex in cars ever, The Cook County Forest Preserve District.
How can Provena align itself with these hideous and evil organizations that want to destroy the Catholic World? The Catholic Church would never be found guilty of aiding and abiding sexual deviants especially ones that enjoy pedophilia. Never! Sever this relationship immediately!

I knew this post would get this way. I'm not surprised. Carmen, although you wish to gay bash and express your anti-semetic views, try to stick to PP, Provena and FAPP.

Where is it that Planned Parenthood has not as yet gotten their ugly tentacles into. No matter where you turn it seems as if they have gotten their influence into our society, ruining it. I pray that people will start to wake up and learn about pp those that they support and those who support them and then let's start boycotting them. I can not believe that Provena feels no conflict, well, if this is true, I feel no conflict in starting to boycott Provena and any health services that they provide. We need our Catholic leadership to stand up.

The one that really gets me irked is when people support the Susan G Komen Foundation and they don't know some of the funds are funneled to Planned Parenthood.
It's a real mess out there we need to clean up.

I feel that under other circumstances, this would not be a problem. I think this sort of thing goes on under other circumstances without clients knowing who the other clients are. However, in light of the situation going on in Aurora right now, I feel that it is a bad move on the part of Provena and also the comments hurt the Prolife cause in the city of Aurora. What I feel would be appropriate would be to defer to Joe and Eric Scheidler. What are they saying? I believe that a visit by Joe and Eric to the Chairman of the board of Provena would be great? What do you think?

Eric and his father do carry great weight in the prolife arena, but you also have to exercise your voice. If any issue is important to you, you must speak out. Eric and his father cannot do it alone. If they did not have you behind them, there would be no power to their message. And don't rely on this or any other blog to do your speaking. You must call and write the authority in question. Stand up for life.

"I would be utterly ashamed to be represented by a firm that advocates an organization such as Planned Parenthood…"
So would I.

Life Decisions International, a pro-life organization whose primary mission is to challenge the agenda of Planned Parenthood worldwide, maintains a list of organizations that contribute funds to PP. Also included are organzizations that are either involved with PP or are otherwise active in the Culture of Death. To see a partial list of these corporations and organizations or to order a complete list, visit Life Decisions' web site at http://www.fightpp.org
