Sept. 7 - Fasting and Prayer
Posted by Roger on Friday, September 7th, 2007
Today is a day for FASTING. Today, I join with hundreds, if not thousands of people in a day of fasting to keep PP from opening in our community. Please join me, and all the others who will be fasting for this cause. Our 40 Day Prayer Vigil is not just about prayer, which is great, but also about fasting.
Bishop Peter Sartain, the Catholic bishop of the Diocese of Joliet, called for this day of fasting. Here is an excerpt from his letter:
"Please join me on Friday, September 7 in a day of prayer and penance for the promotion of a Culture of Life and an end to abortion. Pray in the manner of your choosing – perhaps attend Mass that day, pray the rosary or other favorite prayers, for the intention of an increased respect for the sacredness of life. Choose a simple penance in keeping with your health and daily duties – abstain from meat or sweets that day, or refrain from television or other entertainment. Such simple efforts on our part can be a powerful witness to our neighbors and a sign to our Heavenly Father that we love the life – the lives – he has given us.
May we never tire of proclaiming the dignity and worth of every human life. May we never tire of serving the vulnerable and their caregivers with generous hearts. And may we never cease to pray for the day when all people, and all societies, will defend the life of every human from conception to natural death."

Candlelight Vigil at PP-Aurora on Friday, September 7th, at 9:15PM
Most Reverend J. Peter Sartain, Bishop of Joliet, has requested a day of prayer and penance on Friday, September 7th, for the promotion of a Culture of Life and an end to abortion. As one of many responses to this request, a Candlelight Vigil will be held at the Planned Parenthood Aurora abortion site on that day, starting at 9:15PM. The facility is located at 3051 E. New York St., Aurora, IL.
This special Vigil will unite Catholics from the Joliet Diocese and all people of good will in public witness to the power of prayer.
The Vigil provides a supplement to–not a replacement for–the many parish commemorations of the September 7th day of prayer and penance.

Now that you have tried it today, you may want to consider fasting EVERY Friday for an end to abortion. Consider a bread and water fast or a sacrifice or special commitment that is meaningful to you. What a powerful message we would send if we all did it!

For Catholics, today Sept 7, is also the
First Friday of the month, a day traditionally
set aside to honor, worship and make reparation to
the Sacred Heart of Jesus, which is the symbol of our Blessed Lord's divine and human love for all mankind.
What better day to pray and fast to our Lord and invoke him for the all graces needed for ourselves, our community and nation.
In regards to that, here is a quotation of the encyclical letter of Pius XII, on the Sacred Heart, "Haurietis Aquas":
“We desire that all of the people who struggle actively to establish the Kingdom of Jesus in the world, take the devotion to the Sacred Heart of Jesus as their banner. [...] Ardently wishing to offer a secure barrier against the impious plottings of the enemies
of God and of the Church, and to have families and nations return to the love of God, we do not hesitate to propose devotion to the Sacred Heart of Jesus as the most efficacious school of divine charity, on which charity it is necessary to construct the Kingdom of God in the souls of individuals, in the domestic society and in nations.” (Pope Pius XII, Haurietis aquas,
82-83)
If you are a non-Catholic Christian, then join with us in your own way of showing your love for Our Lord Jesus and in some way internally and externally, returning to Him your love and devotion for His Love for each of us.

Dear Pro-Life Action League and all the other Pro-Lifers,
Thank you, thank you, thank you for all that you have been doing to stop the Planned Parenthood Clinic from opening in Aurora.
My family and I just arrived from being out of town for the last few weeks, so unfortunately we have been unable to participate in the wonderful on-site prayer vigil and prayer services you've been hosting. But we will be coming out now that we're back in town!
And even though Friday was my sister's birthday, we celebrated a day early so we could fast with you for an end to abortion and specifically that the aurora clinic will never open its doors as an abortion clinic, but instead as a center of life!
Our prayers have been with you and continue to be each and every day.
Ad Majorem Dei Gloriam; for LIFE!
